The U.S. Center for Disease Control does not mandate community water fluoridation, however, many states and local governments have implemented water fluoridation of the public water supply as a way to improve oral health. Earlier this month the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that it would be studying and making a new recommendation on the fluoridation of drinking water. Many states are considering banning fluoride in the water supply, giving discretion to the water board or putting the issue to a public vote. FOCUS will continue to monitor policy changes affecting fluoride in drinking water.
