Head Start, the federal program supporting early childhood education and school readiness, may have its funding revoked in Republican President Donald Trump’s budget proposal. Funds for Head Start aim to shrink the achievement gap between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds by delivering services from early learning and school nutrition to family engagement opportunities and health services. The United States Congress will ultimately have the power to allocate federal funding.
